CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will play host to Winthrop and Furman in a three-team tournament on Saturday, Apr. 8 at Jervey Gynmasium to open its spring schedule. The Tigers will face the Furman Paladins at 10:00 AM in the opening match of the day and will then play the Eagles at 2:00 PM. Furman and Winthrop will square off at 12:00 PM. All matches are free to the public.
Eleven student-athletes will be competing for Clemson on Saturday, including 2005 ACC and AVCA East Region Rookie of the Year Jeannette Abbott and second-team All-ACC selection Brittany Ross. Abbott set a school record for kills by a freshman with 515 during the fall, while also recording 304 digs and 79 blocks. Ross became just the 11th different Tiger to post at least 20 kills and 20 digs in the same match when she accomplished the feat last season. She also tallied a team-high 525 kills last season. Clemson also returns junior libero Anna Vallinch, whose 1161 career digs rank seventh in school history, and freshman Danielle Hepburn, who posted a freshman record 143 blocks in her rookie campaign.
Saturday’s tournament is the first of three for the Tigers this spring, as they will also travel to the University of Georgia and the University of South Carolina for events.
