CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team will be in action on Saturday in its annual Orange & White scrimmage. The Tigers, ranked 19th in both coaches and media polls, will begin play at 3:00 pm at Jervey Gym.
Fans will see familiar faces in seniors Jeannette Abbott (OH) and Danielle Hepburn (MH) and juniors Didem Ege (L), Lia Proctor (OH), all returning starters from Clemson’s 2007 ACC Championship team. However, Head Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover and her staff have added seven newcomers to the 2008 squad. Rookie Brittany Fennell and red-shirt Lisa Jedlicka will compete for a spot in the middle, while several players remain in the mix on the right side. Sophomore Cansu Ozdemir, freshman Lacy Hayes and walk-on Juliana Sobczyk are all options.
Hayes also has setting experience and will back-up Murphy, arguably the top setter in the conference. Sophomore Meghan Hinemeyer will switch to a primarily defensive role and walk-on Katie Sharpe of nearby Riverside HS will provide depth in the back row. Rookie Brooke Kohler’s availability for the 2008 season is questionable after the hitter from Jupiter, FL underwent shoulder surgery over the summer. Morgann Mitchell, a walk-on from Peachtree City, GA, and transfer Jessica Williams round out the Tiger roster.
