Volleyball Recruit Among Top 50 in Nation

March 31, 1999

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson volleyball signee Jessie Betcher of Boulder, CO, has been named to the Volleyball Magazine 1999 Fab 50. Each year the magazine recognizes the top 50 high school seniors as the “Fab 50”. Betcher is the first Clemson player ever to make the list. Among the other schools with signees on the list are 1998 national champion Long Beach State, national runner-up Penn State, Stanford and UCLA.

Betcher, a setter, led Boulder High to a 71-14 record over the past three seasons. The team was the state tournament runner-up the past two years and placed third in 1996. Betcher earned the 5A Player of the Year Award in 1996 and 1998 from the Rocky Mountain News and the same award from the Denver Post as a junior and senior. She was named first team all-state and all-league three consecutive seasons and was honored as her team’s MVP in 1997 and 1998.

As a member of the Boulder Volleyball Club, Betcher participated at Junior Nationals from 1995-98. The team placed 11th at the Junior Nationals 18 Open in 1998. Betcher was named to the all-Rocky Mountain Regional Team in 1995, 1997 and 1998 and was a member of the Northeast National Qualifier All-Tournament Team in 1996.

“I am very excited for Jessie,” said Clemson head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover. “She has really worked hard, and we’re happy to see that she’s receiving recognition. We feel that we have recruited one of the top setters in the country, and it’s nice to see that others feel the same way about her.”
