Volleyball Ranked 21st Nationally in RPI Rating

March 17, 1999

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team ranked 21st nationally in the 1998 Rating Percentage Indices (RPI) released this week by the NCAA. The ACC ranked third nationally among all conferences with an RPI rating of .5645. The Tigers’ non-conference record (11-4) earned the 34th-best RPI rating. Coupled with the strength of the ACC schedule, the total rating came to 21st in the nation.

Penn State led the nation in RPI rating, followed by Long Beach State, who won the NCAA Championship. The Big Ten Conference led the nation with a rating of .6004.

“We’re very excited and pleased that the ACC conference had such a great year, and us finishing 21st in the country helps to validate our program’s reputation nationally,” said Clemson head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover.

Clemson finished the 1998 season with a 22-11 record, earning its fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last six years. The Tigers lost in the second round of the tournament to eventual tournament runner-up Penn State.
