Clemson volleyball will play host to Maryland and Virginia in a Solid Orange weekend. The Tigers and Terrapins are set to play at 7:00 PM on Friday, while Clemson and Virginia are scheduled for 6:00 PM Saturday. Admission is free to both matches.
The Tigers will look to win their fourth consecutive match Friday when Maryland comes to town. Clemson got off to a 1-3 start in the conference before notching victories at Duke and at Wake Forest last weekend. Clemson holds an 11-7 overall record on the season.
Clemson’s Lori Ashton is coming off a string of solid performances. She hit .515 and had 17 kills last weekend against Duke, then had seven total blocks (three solo) at Wake Forest. Ashton leads the team with a .329 hitting percentage. Fellow senior Leslie Finn is atop the ACC in kills per game with 5.27, and she has a total of 337 kills this season.
Anna Vallinch had over 20 digs in both matches last weekend for Clemson, and she now has an even 300 on the season (4.62 per game). She is currently third in the league in defensive saves per game.
Maryland enters Friday’s match with an 8-8 record, 3-3 in ACC play. The Terrapins’ offensive attack is led by Stephanie Smith, who has a team-best .303 hitting percentage. Sarah Treadwell leads Maryland with 211 kills and 318 digs.
Virginia currently sports a 13-5 record (3-3 in the ACC), but the Cavaliers travel to Georgia Tech before visiting Clemson. Freshman Sarah Kirkwood has been outstanding for the Cavaliers this season. She leads the team with 340 kills and a 5.15 per game average. In addition, she is hitting .285 for the year. Her sister, Emily Kirkwood, is the team setter and leads the squad with 857 assists.
Following this weekend’s matches, Clemson will play host to Wofford on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in a match that was recently added to the schedule. —
