ATLANTA, Ga. – The Clemson volleyball team returned to the hardwood for the first time since November of 2017 Saturday on the campus of Georgia Tech, playing in three scrimmages Saturday afternoon against Kennesaw State, Georgia State and Auburn. Each match was determined by the best of three sets with the the third set, if necessary, going to 15 points. With two new faces in prominent roles in Ohio State transfer Brooke Bailey, an outside hitter, and freshman middle blocker Adria Oliver, the Tigers became more comfortable as the day progressed.
“It was definitely good to get under bright lights for first time this spring,” said Clemson head coach Michaela Franklin, who is entering her second season as Clemson head coach. “It’s essential in order for our team to gel together.”
“I thought today we came out with a chip on our shoulder,” said rising-junior outside hitter Kaylin Korte. “We’ve been waiting to show people what we’ve been working on and where this program is heading. I’m excited for the future.”
Korte led the team last season in kills (349), averaging 3.36 kills per set and was earned Second Team All-ACC honors.
Oliver offered her take on the Tigers’ first spring experience this season. “My first spring experience was definitely one to to remember. Through all the great days and the bad days of practice, I knew that it would all be for a good reason. This spring has been the absolute best for me personally. I couldn’t be more excited for this fall.”
“Our group has been working extremely hard in practice, but it’s always fun to see who steps up another level when pressure of a live match is on the line,” said Franklin. “We had people step up today.”
The Tigers return to Jervey Gym Thursday, April 5, as they host Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. (ET).
