Volleyball Completes 2009 Signing Class With Serenat Yaz

July 24, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson Volleyball Head Coach Jolene Jordan Hoover finalized her 2009 signing class, announcing the addition of Didem Ege and rising junior Cansu Ozdemir.

“We are really looking forward to Serenat joining our team and program,” said Hoover. “She is a very complete player with great court awareness. She has competed at a very high level and we are excited about what she will bring to the team. The addition of Serenat will give us the depth and skill to continue to compete for the ACC title.”

Yaz is the fifth member of the 2009 signing class, joining Tanya Mirutenko (Hawthorn Woods, IL).

The Turkish freshman has had a lot of winning experience, and also participated with the Turkish Youth National team from 2005-2007 and the Junior National Team from 2008-2009. In 2007, her squad was the runner-up at the FIVB Youth Girls World Championships in Mexico, marking the first time a Turkish National team had ever played in the finals of a world championship in any sport.

At the high school level, Yaz’s teams won the Turkish National High School Championship in each of the past two seasons, and finished no worse than third in the other two seasons. In the 2007-08 tournament, Yaz was tabbed the best hitter of the national tournament.

Yaz plans to enroll in industrial engineering upon enrollment in August.
