Two Tigers To Compete At 2003 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships

CLEMSON, SC – Two members of the men’s swimming and diving team will represent Clemson at the 2003 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships on Mar. 27-29 in Austin, TX. Eric Shulick will compete in the one and three-meter diving competitions, while Rob Kummer will swim in the 100 fly for the Tigers. The meet, hosted by the University of Texas, will be held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center with the preliminary rounds beginning at 11:00 a.m., diving preliminaries at 1:00 p.m. and the finals at 7:00 p.m. each day.

Kummer, a junior from Fort Wayne, IN, qualified for nationals after posting a career-best time of 47.84 in the 100 fly for a second-place finish at the 2003 ACC Championships. Kummer was also the ACC runner-up in the 200 fly, posting a career-fastest time of 1:46.65 in the event. He was named to the All-ACC team in 2002 and 2003. Kummer currently holds the fastest times in Clemson history in both the 100 and 200 fly.

Shulick, a sophomore from Naugatuck, CT, placed 13th in the one-meter competition (547.55 points) at the NCAA Zone B Diving Regional in Auburn, AL to qualify for nationals. At the 2003 ACC Championships, Shulick was the runner-up in the one-meter with 315.05 points and placed 11th in the three-meter with 533.35 points.
