Two Former Clemson Track And Field Athletes Serve As Flagbearers For Opening Ceremony

ATHENS, GREECE – Two former Clemson track and field athletes were honored as the flagbearers for their respective countries in the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad. Among the 202 National Olympic Committees participating in the opening ceremony, Todd Matthews (Jouda) and Cydonie Mothersill carried the flag of the countries they are representing at this year’s Olympics. Matthews, who competed for Clemson from 1999-2002, carried the flag for Sudan, while Mothersill, a NCAA Champion for the Lady Tigers in 2001, led the delegation from the Cayman Islands. Matthews will begin competition in the high hurdles on August 24, while Mothersill will begin competition in the 200m on August 23.
