Two Clemson Women’s Track And Field Records Set At Orange and Purple Classic

CLEMSON, SC – Two Clemson women’s track and field records were set Sunday at the Orange and Purple Classic held at the Rock Norman Track complex. Jamine Moton set a school, ACC and personal record in the shot put with a mark of 58’2 1/2″, improving on her previous personal best mark of 53’1 3/4″ by over five feet. The Lady Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Michelle Burgher, LaShonda Cutchin, Shekera Weston and Cydonie Mothersill tied the school record with a time of 3:31.84. Both Moton and the 4x400m relay team eclipsed the automatic qualifying standards for the NCAA Championships with their marks. Moton is currenlty tied for first in the nation with her shot put mark while the relay team is third in the nation.

In the running events, Shannon Murray finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.95, and Marcia Smith was fourth (12.09). Smith posted a second-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.08. In the 400m dash, LaShonda Cutchin finished fourth with a time of 54.62, while Perry Fields was third in the 800m run with a time of 2:09.93. Kyana Elder won the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.67, and Nyjla Littlejohn posted a second place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.06. The Lady Tiger’s 4x100m relay team of Murray, Weston, Burgher and Mothersill won that event with an automatic qualifying time of 44.64.

In the field events, Mandy McLane finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 11’11 3/4″, and Joana Costa took third with the same mark. McLane cleared the height first, thus claiming the higher placing.

The Lady Tigers will compete at the Reebok Invitational this weekend in Atlanta, GA.
