Clemson golfer Matt Hendrix and swimmer Thomas Rappold have been named to the Men’s At-Large Verizon Academic All-District III second-team. Student-athletes from the sports of swimming, wrestling, golf, and tennis are eligible for the team.
Hendrix, a junior on Clemson’s number-one ranked men’s golf team, recently was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the fourth straight year. The native of Aiken, SC will be one of Clemson’s five participants in this week’s NCAA Tournament in Stillwater, OK. He currently has a stroke average of 71.29 and is ranked 10th in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin golf rankings. He finished fourth at the NCAA East Regional two weeks ago, and helped the Clemson team to the ACC Championship with a final round 68 on April 20th.
Rappold, a native of Roanoke, VA, has a 4.0 cumulative GPA in Computer Information Systems. The sophomore holds the third-fastest time in Clemson history in the 100 back and the fourth-fastest time in Tiger record books in the 100 fly. He posted his career-best time in the 100 fly (48.87) during the preliminary round of the 2003 ACC Championships and went on to place eighth in the finals of the event.
Rappold also recorded his career-best time in the 100 back during the ACC meet preliminaries. The time of 49.75 in 100 back was the fastest of the season for any Tiger in the event. Rappold was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in 2002 and 2003.
