GREENSBORO, NC – Clemson’s Turk Pettit has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for October. It marks the second straight month Clemson has had the ACC Golfer of the month. Bryson Nimmer won the honor for September.
Pettit, a sophomore from Auburn, Alabama, finished second at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in a field that included 24 of the top 100 players in the nation. He finished second to the No. 1 amateur in the world from Southern Cal. Pettit had rounds of 68-68-70 on the par 72 course for a 206 total, his career best on a par 72 course.
Pettit also helped Clemson to a co-championship of the Jack Nicklaus Match Play in Dublin, Ohio. He halved a match with an Ohio State player on his home course and helped Clemson to a 4-2 win over Georgia that got Clemson to the championship match. The championship match was then canceled due to weather and Clemson and Georgia Tech were declared co-champions.
So far this year Pettit has a 69.83 stroke average for 12 rounds. He has six rounds in the 60s and seven under-par rounds. He was 20-under-par for his last two tournaments of the year.
