Track & Field Squads Play Host to Clemson Opener This Weekend

The Clemson women’s track & field team will begin its indoor seasons this weekend at the Clemson Opener on December 2-3. The meet is set to get underway Friday at 5:00 PM with the men’s distance medley relay and women’s 20-pound weight throw. The second day of competition will begin Saturday at 11:00 AM with multiple events and conclude at 4:40 PM with the women’s 4x400m relay. In total, over 30 schools will be competing in the event at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Facility.

The list of participating institutions this weekend includes Alabama, Alabama A&M, Alabama-Birmingham, Anderson College, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, The Citadel, Claflin, Clayton State, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Emory, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Jackson State, Kennesaw State, Mars Hill, Mississippi Valley State, Morehouse College, North Carolina Central, Radford, Savannah State, South Carolina State, Tennessee, Troy, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, and Winthrop.

Competing for the women’s team in the 20-pound weight throw will be Krystal Woods, Rochelle Kokayko, and Della Clark. The women will compete in the distance medley relay at 5:20 PM on Friday, with Clemson’s lineup featuring Casey Phillips, Patrice McMillan, and Thea Dix. In the 60m hurdles, Krystal Barringer and Christina Smith will be competing for the Lady Tigers. The women’s long jump will be held Friday at 6:00 PM, with Clemson featuring Charmayne Smith, Tonya Nwankwo, and Michelle Rogers.

The women’s 60m dash preliminaries will be held Friday, with the finals on Saturday at 11:30 AM. In that event for Clemson will be Nwankwo. The final women’s event on Friday will be the 5000m at 7:25 PM. On Saturday, the triple jump and pole vault will begin at 11:00 AM for the women. Clemson will have Rogers in the triple jump and Mary Armstrong, Jessica Earp, Helen Kirkland, Krissy Thompson, and Beth Jordan in the pole vault.

The women’s mile will take place at 12:00 PM on Saturday, with the Lady Tigers featuring Lauren Marriott, Lauren Brewer, Maggie Zawaski, Jessica Rutter, and Kerry Foltz. Competing in the 400m dash at 1:00 PM on Saturday will be Smith, Sybil Sobanjo. The women’s high jump will also take place at that time, with Felicia Hawthorne, Katie Farnan, and Anni Korhonen competing for Clemson. Clark and Allison Bradshaw will be in the shot put at 1:00 PM. Caroline Rash, Elizabeth Embler, and Jennifer Barton, Jennifer Hooten, Ashley Robinson, and Tia Perry.
