CLEMSON, SC – The Tiger track & field teams will resume the 2010-11 indoor season by playing host to the Clemson Invitational at the school’s indoor complex on Friday and Saturday. The action gets underway Friday at 5:00 PM with the men’s and women’s triple jump and distance medley relays. Saturday’s events begin at 11:00 AM in the field and at 12 PM on the track.

“We’ve had a really good offseason in both our men’s and women’s programs,” said Lawrence Johnson, Clemson’s Director of Track & Field. “I think our kids are ready to start racing and having meets against other competition outside of their teammates. Both teams are still relatively young, but we’re excited about this indoor season.”

Clemson’s fifth-ranked women will take on a different look during the indoor campaign. Three of the team’s top athletes – Michaylin Golladay, Patricia Mamona and Liane Weber – have exhausted their indoor eligibility and will only compete outdoors in 2011. That gives the Tigers a young roster, but one with plenty of standouts. April Sinkler returns for her senior indoor season and is slated to compete in the long jump on Saturday. The reigning ACC Indoor and Outdoor Freshmen of the Year, Brianna Rollins and Stormy Kendrick, return to lead a dynamic sprint group. Other returning All-Americans for the women’s team include Sonni Austin and Jasmine Edgerson in the relays and Kim Ruck in the distance events.

The women’s recruiting class was recently tabbed one of the nation’s best by Track & Field News. Briana Johnson (San Diego State), Misha Morris (Charleston Southern) and Marlena Wesh (Oklahoma) are also expected to compete for the Tigers at the meet.

The men’s team is a young group once again, but does return 2010 indoor All-Americans in Joe Craig also joined the track team this week, and he will also sit out the meet this weekend as he begins training with the squad.

Friday’s track events will be the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, 300m dash, 500m run, 5K and distance medley relay. Friday’s field events are the triple jump, high jump, pole vault and weight throw.

On Saturday, athletes will be competing on the track in the 200, 400, 800, mile, 3K and 4x400m relays. In the field, competitions will be held for the high jump, pole vault, long jump and shot put.
