Track And Field Set To Begin NCAA Championship Competition

June 10, 2004

AUSTIN, TX – The Clemson men’s and women’s track and field teams will begin competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday afternoon after inclement weather on Wednesday postponed the first day of the 2004 meet. Due to the shortened length of the meet, all running events will be run only as preliminary and final events (no semifinal round).

For the Clemson women’s track and field team on Thursday, only the 4x400m relay will compete at 8:30 PM in the preliminaries of that event. On the men’s side, Clemson will compete in the long jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 110m hurdles on Thursday. The 4x100m relay will be the first event on the track, as the Tigers’ Tye Hill, Ronald Richards and Airese Currie compete at 3:30 PM. At 5:40 PM, Currie and Hill will compete in the preliminaries of the 100m dash, then Lydell Perry will take to the track for the 110m hurdles at 6:30 PM. Also at 6:30 PM, George Kitchens will look to become a two-time outdoor long jump All-American, and Adam Linkenauger will compete in the high jump at 7:00 PM. The Tigers’ Currie and Hill will return to the track at 7:35 PM for the preliminaries of the 200m to round out competition on day one.
