Tina Langley Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

May 7, 2003

Tina Langley has been named an assistant women’s basketball coach at Clemson as announced by Lady Tiger Head Coach Jim Davis. Langley comes to Clemson from the University of Toledo, where she spent five years. She was an assistant coach for four years and was named an associate head coach prior to last season.

While at Toledo, the Rockets accumulated an 101-38 (.679) record, including three Mid-American Conference regular season championships (1999, 2001, 2003) and two MAC Tournament titles (1999, 2001), in those five years.

Langley served as the recruiting coordinator for the Rockets and was the primary coach for the post players in 2003, and the guards three years prior to that. In her first season, she worked with the post players. Langley was also instrumental in other areas, such as scouting opponents and supporting the academic support staff in monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes who were assigned to her.

Langley has helped the Rockets attract top recruiting classes, including the 2000-01 class, which ranked 20th in the nation, according to All-Star Girl’s Report Newsletter. Prior to her stop in Toledo, Langley, served as the head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Walker High School in Jasper, AL for one year. She led Walker to a 16-10 record, while winning area and county titles in 1997-98 before losing to Butler High, a team ranked third in the nation. In 1996-97, she served as assistant coach in both basketball and volleyball.

A native of Jasper, AL, Langley is a 1996 graduate of West Alabama, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in learning behavior disabilities. She continued her studies at the University of Toledo and received her master’s degree in education in 1999. Langley played two seasons of basketball at West Alabama after transferring from Bevill State Community College. At Bevill, she was a two-year letterwinner in volleyball and basketball, and was named the basketball team’s defensive player of the year as a sophomore.

“We are delighted to have Tina joining our Clemson family,” said Lady Tiger Head Coach Jim Davis. “She is a great fit with our staff. Her recruiting classes at Toledo have been ranked nationally, and I am confident that she can lead our recruiting efforts and help us bring quality people who are quality players to Clemson.”
