Tigers Wrap Up Third Day at ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Clemson men’s swimming team finished the third day of competition at the ACC Championships in seventh place with 184 points. The men competed in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 400 medley relay.

In the 400 IM, the first event of the evening, Clemson had three men in the bonus consolation final as sophomore Matt Angelini finished 19th with a 3:56.17 and freshman Andrew Abeysinghe took 20th with a 3:59.05.

Then in the 100 fly, sophomore Seth Broster scored for the Tigers with a 14th place finish in a time of 48.49.

The next event was the 200 free where junior David Gordon finished 15th to score for the Tigers. His time of 1:39.16 in the prelims moves him into tenth all-time at Clemson in that event. Sophomore Lee Groseclose competed in the bonus consolation final with an 18th place finish and a personal best time of 1:39.61 in the prelims.

Junior Kyle Shoemaker then scored for the Tigers in the 100 breast with a 12th place finish in a time of 55.62. Sophomore Chase Henderson finished 19th in a personal best time of 57.46.

In the 100 back, sophomore Thomas Recko also scored for the Tigers, finishing 15th in a time of 49.81 and fellow senior Jason Chatlosh finished 22nd in a time of 50.32.

The final event of the evening was the 400 medley relay, where Clemson’s group of Chris Dart, Kyle Shoemaker, Seth Broster and Eric Bruck finished seventh in a NCAA B time of 3:16.60.

In diving, David Giambra finished 16th on the three-meter to score for the Tigers and Patrick Chamberlain finished 26th.

Saturday Preview:

Saturday will be the final day of competition for the men at the ACC Championships. They will be competing in the 1605 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay. The preliminaries for all events but the 1650 free will take place at 11:00 a.m. and the 1650 free will be at 4:00 p.m. Then the finals for all of the events will begin at 7:00 p.m. The finals will be broadcast on theACC.com and all of the days events can be followed on livestats from the ACC Championships Site.
