ORLANDO, Fla – The Clemson Tigers officially opened up the outdoor portion of their season as they completed the first day of the UCF Black and Gold Invitational in Orlando.
Shining bright on the day was Courtney Lawrence as he secured first place in the men’s shot put with a throw of 18.78m. Lawrence most recently represented Clemson at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships where he finished ninth overall in the men’s shot put to be named a Second Team All-American.
Ethan Cocco also impressed in the first day of competition as he recorded a third place finish in the men’s javelin throw with a mark of 68.50m.In the women’s 2000 meter steeplechase, Maddie Dineen finished with a time of 7:14.68 to tab a third-place overall finish for the Tigers.
All eyes were on the freshman in both the men’s and women’s 1500 meter dash as Brian Kweyei earned a third-place overall finish with a time of 3:49.40 and Silvia Jelego recorded a fourth-place finish on the women’s side as she crossed the line at 4:21.93.
