Tigers Turn In Five Regional Qualifying Performances At Orange & Purple Classic

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s track and field team wrapped up its 2005 home meet schedule on Saturday at the Orange & Purple Classic held at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. The Tigers turned in five regional qualifying performances, while Ronald Richards and Danny Alge finished as the top collegians in their events. Alge and Brandon Holmes also posted career-best marks on Saturday.

On the track on Saturday, Ronald Richards was the top collegiate finisher in the 100m dash with his time of 10.43, while teammate Robert Ibeh finished sixth among collegians as he crossed the finish line in 11.02. Ibeh led two other Tigers in the 200m dash with a time of 21.91. Warren Eure and Warren Eure placed eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 49.63. Roy Cheney broke the tape in 14.31 in the 110m hurdles to finish third. Michael Bolling was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles with a season-best and regional qualifying time of 52.01, and Scott Kautz finished in 52.25 to place third.

Danny Alge finished as the top two collegiate competitors in the discus throw. Gilson was the overall runner-up with his mark of 164’7″, while Alge placed third overall with a mark of 153’5″. Danny Alge claimed the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 191’6″, while Brandon Holmes also set a personal-best mark of 200’8″ in the javelin throw to place fourth. Brent Hobbs finished 10th in the javelin with his mark of 168’10”.

The Clemson men’s track and field team will return to action next Saturday, May 14, at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
