Tigers To Toe the Line at Blazer Classic

Race Assignments || Schedule of Events

CLEMSON, S.C. — Following a weekend off from competition, the Clemson cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 16 in Hoover, Ala., at the Blazer Classic.

Clemson’s day will get started at 9:50 a.m. with the ‘gold’ section of the women’s 6k. The men will compete in the ‘gold’ section of the men’s 8k at 10:20 a.m. This will be the Tigers’ second, and final, regular season meet of the season before setting their sights on the ACC Cross Country Championships in Cary, N.C., on Oct. 30.

Last time out, Clemson set the course ablaze at the 2020 Florida State Invitational. John Ward led the way for the men’s team by setting a personal best in the 8k, running 24:38.7. Ward’s time was an improvement of 19.1 seconds from his previous best. The men’s top five runners consisted of Ward, Marlin Young, Jackson Leech, Michael Smith and Danny Shaughnessy while competing in Tallahassee, Fla.

The women’s squad will return to the course after a strong display of group running in Tallahassee. In her Clemson debut, Lauren Hayes crossed the line as the Tigers’ top female with Laurie Barton two-tenths of a second behind her. Amelia Jones and Josie Wirtz, Clemson’s third and fourth runners at the meet, finished in 59th and 60th place overall. Sydney Collins edged out Mikie Harris by one-tenth of a second to round-out the Tigers’ top five in what was Collins’ debut with Clemson cross country.

In the women’s ‘gold’ section, Clemson will toe the line with nine other schools, including Louisville and South Carolina. In the men’s section, Clemson will be the ACC’s lone representative in the 10-team race.

No spectators will be allowed at the meet, as the event is limited to participants, coaches and working staff.
