Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson women’s golf team will compete at the Seventh Annual Briar’s Creek Invitational. The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek is a par 72, 6,101-yard course designed by Rees Jones that is located in Johns Island, S.C. The College of Charleston will serve as the host institution for the event.
The 54-hole tournament will begin on Monday, March 18 with 36 holes and will conclude on Tuesday, March 19 with the final 18. Monday will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start, and Tuesday will be an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
Clemson, which ranks 22nd nationally, will be joined in the 17-team field by Boston College, Campbell, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, East Carolina, 20th-ranked Furman, Georgetown, No. 25 Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Long Beach State, No. 21 Michigan State, Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Penn State and UNC Ashville.
Kelley Hester’s lineup for the Briar’s Creek Invitational includes lone senior Alice Hewson, junior Ana Paula Valdes, sophomore Callista Rice and freshmen Alexandra Swayne and Lindsay May.
The Tigers are led by Hewson and Valdes, both with an individual medalist honor this season. Hewson picked up her fourth career individual win at the ICON Invitational with a nine-under par 207. The England native, currently ranked 47th by Golfweek, has been invited to play in the upcoming Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April. She leads the team in stroke average (71.73) and rounds under par (9).
Valdes won her first collegiate tournament this fall with co-medalist honors at the Battle at the Beach. The native of Morelia, Mexico enters the weekend with a 72.59 stroke average, third best on the team.
