Tigers Tied for 4th After Round One of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invite

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Clemson women’s golf finished tied for fourth after the completion of round one at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invite. The Tigers shot a team total of 285, which was good for three-under-par.

Virginia Tech finished in the lead after round one with a team total of 282, which is good for six-under-par.

The Tigers were led by freshman Melena Barrientos and sophomore Savannah Grewal. Barrientos, a native of Plano, Texas who shot a two-under 70, which included five birdies. Grewal, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, shot a first-round score of one under par 71, including four birdies.

“Super Senior” Callista Rice and junior Ivy Shepherd shot an even-par 72, while junior Lindsay May finished the day with a twelve over 84. The trio combined tallied seven birdies.

“Birdies were easy to come by early, but we weren’t able to capitalize again on our opportunities until down the stretch. But it was a good overall team effort with four players at par or better,” said Head Coach Kelley Hester.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow for round two of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invite.
