Tigers Ready For NCAA East Prelims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Spots for the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are up for grabs. A combined 28 Clemson entries will look to punch their ticket to national championship meet as the Tigers compete at the 2019 NCAA East Prelims at North Florida’s Hodges Stadium May 23-25 in Jacksonville, Florida. The top 12 competitors – in each event – from both the East and West regions will advance to the national meet, which is being held in Austin, Texas June 5-8.

Clemson Notes

  • The men are led by freshman discus thrower Roje Stona, who is the highest-ranking Tiger on the East Prelims list at No. 2. On the track, is led by Marcus Parker, who is ranked No. 7 among all competitors in the 200m dash.
  • On the women’s side, Lakeisha Warner is top ranked competitor for the Tigers. Warner ranks 11th among all East Prelims competitors in the 400mH. Rebekah Smith – in the women’s 100m dash – ranks 15th.
  • All four Clemson relay teams qualified the regional meet.
  • With a season best time of 3:32.67, the women’s 4x400m relay team is the Tigers’ highest-ranking relay group at No. 7. The women’s 4x400m – on paper – is also 1.5 seconds faster than the next best team (Jacksonville).
  • The Tigers are slated to kick off action at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday with Chris McBride in the men’s long jump finals.
  • On the track, Clemson gets started at 4:30 p.m. with Warner and Markeeta Thomas in the first round of the 400mH.
