Tigers Roll Past Western Carolina

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) – Terrell McIntyre scored 25 points and became Clemson’s career leader in 3-pointers as the No. 24 Tigers beat Western Carolina 82-56 Thursday night.

The Tigers (3-0) took control with a 13-3 run for a 60-41 lead with 9:14 to play. McIntyre and Johnny Miller each hit 3-pointers during the spurt. The Catamounts (0-2) cut the lead to 11 with 7:22 left before Clemson closed the game with a 20-5 run.

Clemson won its 39 straight home game against a Southern Conference opponent. The Tigers are 7-0 against Western Carolina. McIntyre was 5-of-8 from 3-point range, giving him a school-record 172 in his career. He also had seven assists. Harold Jamison had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Andrius Jurkunas added 11 points for the Tigers.

The Catamounts were led by Casey Rogers with 17 points and Dondrell Whitmore with 14.

Clemson outshot Western Carolina 49 percent to 46 percent, but the smaller Catamounts won the rebounding battle 33-30. Clemson led 28-15 with 5:53 remaining in the first half, but the Tigers scored only two more field goals the rest of the half. Western Carolina, which shot 55 percent in the first half, scored nine points in the final 3 1/2 minutes to pull within 36-30 at halftime.

Both teams started slowly. Clemson committed three turnovers and missed two shots before McIntyre scored the first basket almost 3 1/2 minutes into the game.

Western missed four shots and committed four turnovers before scoring its first basket about a minute later.
