CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson (24-6) returns home Tuesday night to play host to Western Carolina (10-23) at 7:15 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Clemson leads the all-time series 38-8 dating back to 1974. Tiger Head Coach Jack Leggett coached the Catamounts from 1983-91. Clemson won both games at Clemson and lost at Cullowhee in 1999.
Western Carolina is led by first-year Head Coach Todd Raleigh. Raleigh played under Leggett at Western Carolina. The Catamounts enter with a 10-23 overall record and has won four games in a row, including a sweep of Wofford this past weekend. Western Carolina is 1-13 on the road.
Western Carolina is hitting .284 as a team and has a 7.61 team ERA. Morgan Frazier leads the team with a .364 batting average. Clemson enters with a .282 battting average and 2.70 team ERA. Clemson will start freshman righthander Ryan Childs (1-1, 4.86 ERA). Western Carolina’s starter has not yet been announced.
In the baseball polls released Monday, Clemson dropped in all three, but remained in the top 10 in every one. Clemson is ranked #9 according to Baseball America, #8 by Collegiate Baseball, and #7 by USA Today Baseball Weekly. Clemson went 1-3 last week. The Tigers will play their next 11 games at home.
