Tigers Qualify For Championship Of America Finals In Four Events

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Clemson men’s track and field team will wrap up competition at the 2002 Penn Relays Saturday at Franklin Field. The Tigers qualified for the Championship of America finals in the 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 110m hurdles and 100m dash. Doug Ameigh will also compete in a Championship of America finals in the high jump on Saturday.

Clemson posted two season-best times, including one automatic qualifying mark, on Friday. Todd Matthews recorded a time of 13.70 in the high hurdles to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. His time was the fastest recorded by any competitor in the trials. Dwight Thomas also recorded a trials-best time in the 100m dash, posting a time of 10.39 to advance to the Championship finals.

The Tigers’ 4x400m relay team of Airese Currie recorded a time of 40.53 to advance to the Championship of America finals.

In the college division high jump, Terrance McDaniel cleared 6’10.25″/2.09m in the high jump to finish fourth.
