Tigers Prepare to Take On Florida State

Jan. 13, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will face off against Florida State on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Tallahassee.

The Tigers will enter Saturday’s dual meet with a 4-2 record (1-1 ACC) on the men’s side and a 3-3 record (1-1 ACC) on the women’s side. Florida State has a season record of 6-1 on the men’s side and 5-1 on the women’s side and are 2-0 in conference play in both.

“The team is preparing for the main phase of our ACC dual meet season,” Head Coach Christopher Ip said. “We will have the opportunity to compete in some championship events against FSU; the 400 medley relay, 400IM, and 800 freestyle relay are not usually contested in a normal dual meet. It is important to monitor the athletes from getting into a routine during this part of the season and we like to mix things up to keep them mentally and physically crisp.”

The Tiger men are coming off of a split of North Carolina and Kentucky last weekend, besting the Wildcats and being defeated by the Tar Heels. The women’s squad was beaten by both opponents. Florida State is ranked 18th in the nation in the latest CSCAA men’s poll and 25th in the latest women’s poll.

Both Florida State and Clemson have picked up sweeps against Florida Atlantic and Georgia Tech in dual meets so far this season. The Seminoles’ men’s team also won the Georgia Tech Invitational in November, while the women’s team finished second. Clemson’s men’s squad came in third at that event, and the women’s squad finished seventh.
