Tigers Prep for NCAA East Prelims

CLEMSON, S.C. — The Clemson track & field program is on the eve of opening the 2016 NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. The meet serves as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which are set for June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore. The top 12 individuals and relays move on to Eugene.

The action starts with a fast and furious day one on Thursday featuring 12 student-athletes competing in 10 different events. Ishmael Kamara and Mimi Land compete in the long jump, while Markeeta Thomas starts the day for the Tigers in the track events with the opening round of the 400 hurdles. Clemson has two entries apiece in the men’s 400 hurdles, set for 5 p.m., and 400 meters, scheduled for 7:45.

Tevin Hester, the top-seeded athlete in the 100 and No. 2 overall in the 200, opens with the qualifying round of the former event at 6:55 p.m. Thursday. The 100 quarterfinals and qualifying round of the 200 are both held Friday. Should he advance to the 200 quarterfinals, those will take place Saturday at 7:50 p.m.

The final day of competition will feature three relays, the women’s 4×100 and both 4×400 groups. The women open the action at 6 p.m. Also on Saturday, the men’s and women’s triple jump will be held. Kamara returns for that event on the men’s side, while Iana Amsterdam and Anasterasia Terrell represent the Clemson women in the final field event at 6:30 p.m.
