Stillwater, Okla. – Clemson women’s golf finished round two of the NCAA Stillwater Regional at +12 (300) to sit alone in third place heading into Wednesday’s final round. The top four teams will advance to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. from May 20-25.
“Another strong team effort today by the girls,” said Coach Kelley Hester. “The conditions continue to be challenging, but they really hung in there and finished strong.”
Melena Barrientos turned in the best round of the day for the Tigers, shooting a one-under-par 71. The freshman used back-to-back birdies on holes two and three to carry her to a -1 front nine, before eagling the par-5 18th to finish the back nine at even. Barrientos has now turned in an eagle on back-to-back days on 18, her only two eagles of the season, and sits alone in 6th place at +1 for the tournament.
Savannah Grewal finished the day with a one-over-par 73, with two birdies on the front nine. Grewal is tied for fifth at even par. Callista Rice finished the day at +5 and is tied for 11th, while Annabelle Pancake finished at +7 and is tied for 37th. Katherine Schuster, subbed into the Tigers lineup following Monday’s round, finished the day at +9.
The Tigers are just three shots out of second place (Arizona State, +14), with regional-host Oklahoma State (+18) and Michigan State (+19) sitting in fourth and fifth and pushing for the final NCAA Championship spot.
