Tigers in Sixth Place after Two Rounds at Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, LA – J.T. Horton‘s  11th ranked women’s golf team played 36 holes today at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, due to Sunday’s opening round being cancelled because of inclement weather, and finished the day with a total score of 579, three over par and good enough for sixth place heading into the final round Tuesday.

“I’m really proud of the way the ladies fought back on the second 18 holes today,” Horton said. “It’s really important for us to have all five players with a chance to score. That’s the consistency we are looking for on this team.”

Second ranked UCLA leads the impressive field of 17 with a two round total of 562, four shots ahead of Southern California, who is currently ranked number one in the nation. UCLA shot 277 in their second round, the best round of the day by any team in the tournament and a new tournament record.  Florida, Oklahoma State, and Alabama round out the top five, with Clemson two shots behind Alabama and Oklahoma State.

In the second round, the team shot 284, four shots under par on the par 72 English Turn Golf Club and 11 shots better than their first round. It was the third best round of the second 18, only behind UCLA and Southern California and it helped them move up four spots. Sloan Shanahan led the Tigers with a two under par round of 70. McKenzie Talbert and Ashlan Ramsey both shot one under and Lauren Salazar shot an even par 72. Jessica Hoang shot a 73.

In the first round, the tigers started a bit shaky, but rebounded nicely to finish in tenth place heading into the next round of 18. The team shot 295 in the first round. Sloan Shanahan had the team low in round one as well, shooting a one under par 71. McKenzie Talbert shot a 72, Ashlan Ramsey and Lauren Salazar shot a 76, and Jessica Hoang shot a 79.
