Tigers in Fifth Place after First Day of Competition

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s swimming team is in fifth place with 120 points after the first day of competition at the ACC Championships, held Thursday through Saturday at the University of Maryland Campus Recreation Center Natorium. Virginia leads the meet with 202 points, and North Carolina, N.C. State and Florida State are in a close battle for the second, third and fourth positions.

The Tiger 200 free relay team of Alex Ioanovici, Tim Collis, Rob Etheridge and Will Rogers placed second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:20.86. Ioanovici was second in the 50 free with a provisional qualifying time of 20.03, and Collis placed eighth in the eleventh with a time of 20.66. Etheridge was 12th with a time of 20.72.

In the 200 IM, freshman Matt Wilson placed seventh with a time of 1:50.94, while freshman Andy Meek placed 11th in the 500 free with a time of 4:31.38. The one-meter diving event was held in the first day of competition. Andy Meek placed 12th for the Tigers with a score of 358.50, and Chris Anderson was 13th with 358.50 points. Jeff Thomas placed sixteenth with a score of 334.45.

The Clemson 400 Medley Relay team of Collis, Sean Wallace, Matt Stone and Ioanovici was sixth with a time of 3:22.09.
