CLEMSON, SC – After the first full day of action at the 2011 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the Clemson Tigers sit in a tie for eighth place with 73 points. N.C. State shares that spot with the Tigers. Virginia leads the meet with 263.5 points.
“The Clemson women had a solid night with Sarah Smith and Liz Savage motivated our team, with Sarah placing herself ninth on the all-time list in the 500 free and Liz lowering her tenth-best time in the 200 IM (2:03.62).”
Sarah Smith also posted an NCAA-B time of 4:50.37 in the 500 freestyle to finish in 14th place.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Meg Anderson, Kelsey Krauss, Sarah Bechard, and Maddie Tarantolo finished with a time of 1:33.37, good enough for 14 points for the Tigers. Anderson’s leadoff split of 23.04 seconds is the fastest time in the 50 freestyle for Clemson this season.
Divers Brooke George and Cassie Self brought in some points for the Tigers in the one-meter dive. George posted a score of 263.65, while Self’s score was 258.85.
The Tigers will return to the pool, along with the rest of the conference, on Friday. Preliminary heats will begin at 11 a.m., with the finals of each event beginning at 7 p.m.
