Tigers in Eighth after Opening Round of ACC?s

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The women’s golf team shot a 23-over 307 on the par 71 Sedgefield Country Club in the first round of play at the ACC Championship Thursday. This is the first ACC tournament for the Clemson team in their inaugural season.

Duke and Virginia sit atop the leaderboard with seven- over par rounds of 291.  Miami is in third with a round of 298 and North Carolina is in fourth with a round of 299. Notre Dame, Maryland, and Florida State are all tied for fifth at 306, while Clemson follows in eighth with a 307. NC State comes in at ninth, Wake Forest in 10th, and Boston College in 11th.

Only four players in the field shot par or better, including Florida State’s Matilda Castren who shot an impressive two under par 69 and leads the field individually.

Ashlan Ramsey led the all-freshman squad with a two-over par 73, good enough to be tied for seventh place individually. Lauren Salazar is tied for 14th after shooting a 75. Sloan Shanahan shot a 79, McKenzie Talbert an 80, and Jessica Hoang an 82.

Ramsey, Shanahan, and Salazar played better front nine’s while Talbert and Hoang improved on the back nine. Clemson had 31 bogeys and four double bogeys compared to only seven birdies. Jessica Hoang had four of the team’s seven birdies, while the other four players combined for just three.

Tomorrow, Clemson will play with NC State and Florida State.  The group will tee off between 8:50 and 9:30 a.m.
