Tigers Improve to Third Place at Carpet Classic

Clemson, S.C.—Bryson Nimmer fired a three-under-par 69 and Josh Fickes had a two under par 70 on  Saturday to lead Clemson to a six under par team score of 282 and an improvement to third place out of 14 teams after two rounds of the Carpet Classic in Dalton, Georgia.  Clemson has a 36-hole team score of 565 after two rounds at the course called The Farm.  

Virginia has the team lead after two rounds with a 553 score, while Auburn is in second at 556.  Clemson is third at 11-under-par 565 and LSU is fourth at 567.  Florida is fifth at 569 and Alabama is sixth at 576.   The final round of the 14-team tournament will be held on Sunday.

Nimmer and senior Carson Young stand at five-under-par 139 through two rounds and are tied for seventh place in the individual race.  Nimmer has had rounds of 70 and 69, while Young followed a 68 on Friday with a 71 on Saturday.  Nimmer had five birdies and just two bogeys on Saturday.  Young finished strong on Saturday as he played the final six holes at three under par.

Fickes had a 70, his best round as a Clemson golfer in a team tournament.  The junior had three birdies and just one bogey on Saturday and improved 29 places to 30th place.  Freshman Doc Redman had an even par 72 on Saturday and is in 18th place with a 142 score entering the final round.   William Nottingham was Clemson’s non-counter with an 81 on Saturday.
