Clemson Notes:

  • Clemson hosts the 2017 National Champion South Carolina Gamecocks at Littlejohn Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
  • The Tigers (2-0) are coming off wins over Kennesaw State (41-28) on Nov. 10 and South Carolina State (56-48) on Nov. 13, both at Littlejohn Coliseum.
  • Sophomore Kobi Thornton led the team in scoring against the Lady Bulldogs, with 18 points on an 8-for-11 field goal shooting performance. The 2017 ACC All-Freshman Team selection also pulled down six rebounds in the contest.
  • Junior point guard Danielle Edwards tallied an impressive nine steals against South Carolina State, tying the Clemson school record for steals in a single game. Edwards is now one of five Tigers all-time to record nine steals in a game, a feat which was last accomplished 30 years ago by Ramona O’Neal against Virginia on Feb. 14, 1987.
  • Edwards also scored 16 points and posted five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots against the Lady Bulldogs.
  • Thornton and Edwards lead the Clemson team in scoring on the young season, averaging 12.0 and 11.5 points per game, respectively.
  • Senior Ivy Atkism is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game to lead the Tigers in that category.
  • Defensively, the Tigers have held their opponents below 25% field goal shooting through two games. Against Kennesaw State in the season opener, they held the Owls to just 10-for-55 from the floor, 18.2%.
  • Clemson Head Coach Audra Smith, who is in her fifth season at the helm of the Clemson program, and South Carolina Head Coach Dawn Staley, in her 10th season with the Gamecocks, were teammates for four years at the University of Virginia from 1988-92. During those four years, the Cavaliers were 113-18, won two ACC Championships and reached the NCAA Final Four three times.
