Tigers Host EA Sports Central in Final Tuneup for Regular Season

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson will host the EA Sports Central All-Stars Monday at 7:00 PM at Littlejohn Coliseum in its final exhibition game leading into the 2001-02 season.

Clemson defeated Nike Elite 98-85 on Oct. 31 in the team’s first exhibition game of the season. Tony Stockman scored 19 points and Jamar McKnight added 18. Stockman made 5-12 from three-point range in scoring his Clemson team-best total, while McKnight was 7-8 from the field overall, including 4-4 on three-point goals. McKnight scored his points in just 20 minutes, while Stockman played 26.

Starting center Ray Henderson was also a standout for the Tigers as he recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The junior from Charlotte had six offensive rebounds and made 6-10 shots from the field.

Former Tiger LaDarion Jones plays for EA Sports. A freshman and sophomore for the Tigers in 1995-97, he transferred to Wyoming when then-Clemson assistant coach Larry Shyatt became the head coach of the Cowboys. Former Maryland Terrapin Duane Simpkins and Georgia Bulldog Litterial Green also play for EA Sports.

This is also the final game for the Central All-Stars, who have one win on their 10-game exhibition collegiate tour. EA Sports defeated Arkansas State, but have sustained losses to New Mexico, Texas Tech, SMU, Arkansas, Kansas, Wichita State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Clemson opens the regular season Saturday, Nov. 17 against Morris Brown at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. The game will be played at 8:00 PM. The Tigers will then play LaSalle at 5:30 PM on Nov. 19 and will then meet UAB, Eastern Michigan or Miami (FL) on Nov. 20. Clemson’s home opener is Nov. 24 against Wofford at 7:00 PM. All regular season games can be heard on Clemson Tiger Sports Properties.

Admission to the Clemson exhibition game is free. Gates at all four corners of Littlejohn Coliseum will be open despite construction.
