Tigers Host Clemson Opener

Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their 2000 indoor season with ten event titles in the Clemson Opener. Five women, plus a relay team, along with four men, claimed their events.

The Tigers swept the pole vault events, with Mandy Mclane winning the women’s event with a vault of 12’01.50″ while Ben Hess claimed the men’s event, clearing 16’02.75″. Jamine Moton won the women’s shot put with a mark of 50’03.50″.

In the running events, Clemson also swept the 400m dash, with Otto Spain winning the men’s event in 47.85 and Shekera Weston capturing the women’s event with a time of 55.42. The Tigers also won both 60m high hurdle events with the men taking first through third. Nyjla Littlejohn claimed the women’s event in 8.89 while Sultan Tucker edge teammate Todd Matthews by one one-thousandth of a second. Tucker recorded a 7.88, Matthews posted a time of 7.89 and Ian Potter took third in 7.97. Perry Fields won the women’s one mile run with a time of 5:01.69 and Jason Meany recorded a time of 8:35.50 to win the men’s 3,000m run. The Clemson “A” 4x400m relay team won the women’s event to conclude the meet.

The Clemson men’s and women’s teams are idle until January 19-20 when they host the Clemson Invitational at Littlejohn Coliseum.
