Tigers’ George Kitchens Sets Clemson Track And Field Record At Cyclone Qualifier

AMES, IA – The Clemson men’s track and field team completed competition at the Iowa State Last Chance Meet held on Saturday at the Lied Rec Center. The Tigers were led by junior George Kitchens, who recorded a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 25’4″ in the long jump. Kitchens’ third-place finish set a Clemson record, breaking the previous school-best mark of 25’1.75″ set by Kai Maull in 2001. His mark was also a personal-best effort.

In the 60m dash, Tye Hill was third with his finals time of 6.84. Multi-eventers Brent Hobbs clocked times o f48.53 and 51.02 in the 400m. Brent Hobbs and Ryan Koontz posted times of 8.19, 8.24 and 8.39, respectively.

Adam Linkenauger also cleared the same bar with more attempts, placing eighth. In the shot put, Derek Gilson recorded a mark of 56’11.25″ to place fifth.

The Tigers will await invitations to the NCAA Championships to be announced Monday night. The national meet will be held in Fayetteville, AR, on Mar. 12-13.
