Clemson, S.C. — Alexandra Swayne shot a career best 67 on Sunday, while Alice Hewson was the top performer over the two days of the tournament, as Clemson finished sixth in the Sun Trust Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
The eighth-ranked Florida Gators won the event with an 838 score, while 24th-ranked Miami and 34th-ranked Campbell were tied for second at 843.
Hewson finished tied for ninth in the individual race with a 212 total after her final round of 74, her 16th top 10 finish of her career. Ivy Shepherd finished the third round with a seven-over par 77. The freshman from Peachtree City, Ga. finished the 54-hole event tied 30th with a 217.
Swayne’s three-under par 67 contained six birdies, a team high for the final round of the tournament. Burgess had two birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey in her final round. Ana Paula Valdes had six bogeys in her final round. Swayne, Burgess and Valdes tied with a 218 for 35th.
Sophomore Callista Rice is playing in the event as an individual and after a very strong first and second round yesterday, Rice finished with a score of 217 and tied for 30th.
Kelley Hester’s team will be back in action March 18-19 at Briar’s Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek in Johns Island, S.C.
