Tigers Finish Eighth at ACC Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team finished the ACC Championships in eighth place with 177.5 points on Saturday evening. On the final day of competition, the women competed in the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay while the divers competed on the platform event.

The first event was the 1650 free, where Clemson’s Sarah Smith finished 17th in a time of 16:50.93 and Mandy Snell finished 19th with a 17:03.96.

In the 200 back, sophomore Kelli Kyle finished 11th in the consolation final after a NCAA B time of 1:59.10 in the prelims. Freshman Sarah Andrews finished 17th in the bonus consolation final with a time of 1:59.95, which ties her for sixth in Clemson history.

Next was the 100 free, where freshman Heather Savage finished 34th after setting a school record in the 100 fly the day before.

Then in the 200 breast senior Katrina Obas took 19th with a 2:17.35 and junior Elizabeth Savage finished 24th in a time of 2:20.70. In the 200 fly, freshman Meggie Mizelle finished 19th in a time of 2:02.83.

The final event was the 400 free relay, where Clemson’s group of Heather Savage and Tori Cervone finished eighth with a NCAA B time of 3:24.37.

On the boards, Cassie Self scored for the Tigers with a 13th place finish and Brook George took 19th.

The women will now wait to hear from the NCAA on whether they will qualify for competition. The men’s swimming team will compete in the ACC Championships next week as they begin on Wednesday, February 24 and go through the 27th. The divers have already competed and their scores will be added to the men’s total next week.
