Tigers Finish 16th at Cougar Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall on Tuesday, finishing 16th out of 23 teams at the Powerade Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. J.T. Horton’s team shot a 304 as a team in the final round and 904 for the three-day tournament, 40-over par on the par 72 course.

Freshman Marisa Messana and sophomore Sloan Shanahan led the way for the Tigers on Tuesday with rounds of 75, three-over par.  Freshman Riley Lovorn, sophomore Jessica Hoang, and redshirt sophomore Lauren Salazar all shot rounds of 77.

Hoang finished tied for 42nd individually and had the lowest three-day total on the team at 222.  Messana finished tied for 54th with a three-day total of 224 while Salazar finished 56th with a tournament total of 225. Lovorn finished with a total of 235 while Shanahan finished with a 239 total.

McKenzie Talbert, competing as an individual, shot a 77 in Tuesday’s final round and finished with a tournament total of 237.

Arkansas won the tournament, finishing with a Cougar Classic record three-round low of 846, 18-under par. UCLA finished as the runner-up, seven strokes behind the Razorbacks.

The Tigers compete in the Mason Rudolph Invitational Friday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tennessee. Live scoring will be kept on BirdieFire.com. The address of the course is 1500 Legends Club Lane, Franklin, Tenn. 37069.
