Tigers Fall To No. 24 Seminoles

Tallahassee, FL – Florida State earned its 20th victory of the season after downing Clemson 82-61 in women’s basketball action from the Donald Tucker Center. The #24 Seminoles are now 20-5 (6-4 ACC) on the season, while Clemson falls to 7-15 overall (1-9 ACC) after losing its ninth straight game.

Ganiyat Adeduntan had 18 first-half points for Florida State, as the Seminoles found themselves ahead by 19 at the break. She finished with a game-high 21 points, while Roneeka Hodges added 18 for the Seminoles. Alicia Gladden and Holly Johnson both scored in double figures with 16 and 12, respectively.

For Clemson, junior guard Tasha Phillips erupted for 19 second-half points after playing just one minute in the opening half. She hit five three-pointers in only seven attempts. Her 19 points were the most since she scored a career-best 22 at South Carolina. Julie Talley was the only other Clemson player to reach double figures with 11. Clemson shot 34.3 percent for the game, but did hit 9-20 from beyond the three-point line.

The Seminoles broke open the first half shortly after a three-pointer by Lloyd brought Clemson to within two points at 22-20. Florida State then proceeded to go on a 21-2 run, fueled by the hot hand of Adeduntan. She scored 16 of the Seminoles’ points during the run, in less than four minutes of play. Clemson finally ended the run with a steal and layup by Tasha Taylor.

Julie Talley had seven points for Clemson in the opening half, including her 93rd career three-point basket. For the half, the Lady Tigers were outshot 51.4 percent to 34.4 and outrebounded 22-17.

Clemson was only outscored by two in the second half, but the Seminoles were successful 12 times in 13 trips to the free throw line. Clemson took just six foul shots the entire game. Phillips scored 14 of Clemson’s final 19 points. Taylor had seven assists versus just one turnover for Clemson.

For the second time in three games, leading scorer Reggie Maddox was held without a point. She finished 0-4 from the field.

Clemson next competes against the University of Georgia, ranked 18th in the country, on Sunday, February 13 in the Russell Athletic Shootout at Gwinnett County Civic Center. The Lady Tigers will play at approximately 3:20 PM, following the Georgia Tech-Arkansas game at the same venue.
