Tigers Conclude Round One in Sarasota, Tied For Fifth

Clemson, S.C. – Competing in its first round of competition in nearly a year, the Clemson women’s golf team battled the weather and the field to finish the first round of the LTWF Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate.

Finishing with a six-over-par 294 team score, the Tigers enter tomorrow’s second round in a fifth-place deadlock with Texas Tech as Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Northwestern round out the top four spots.

With an expected start time of 8 a.m., play was delayed due to inclement weather in Sarasota, forcing players to tee off just before 11 a.m..

Picking up where she left off, Ivy Shepherd led the Tigers through the first round of competition after finishing the day at even par. The junior from Peachtree City, Ga. recorded five birdies, three of which came on the front nine. Three of the five total birdies from Shepherd, who is playing out of the top spot, came on par fives which was good enough to place her in front of the entire field for par five scoring.

Freshman Annabelle Pancake played the most consistent stretch of the day, shooting a bogey-free, three-under-par through the first 13 holes of her collegiate career. With all three of her birdies coming on the back nine, Pancake finished the day with a one-over-par 73 score to place her in a tie for 15th on the leaderboard.

Savannah Grewal also finished the day among the top-25 after putting up a two-over-par 74 score. Grewal was followed close behind by Alexandra Swayne who tallied a three-over-par mark which was highlighted by a one-under performance on the front nine. Gracyn Burgess finished the day with a six-over 78.

The Tigers return for the second round at The Founders Golf Club tomorrow with tee times set for 8 a.m.. Live scoring updates can be accessed via Golfstat
