Tigers Conclude Action at Florida Relays

CLEMSON, S.C. — A runner-up finish in the women’s 4×400 and school record in the 4×800 highlighted Clemson’s action Saturday at the Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track. Three additional relays posted season bests on a wet afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.

In the next to last event, the Tigers rallied to a runner-up finish in the women’s 4×4. Natoya Goule took the baton in third place and nearly overtook the home-standing Florida Gators for the top prize. Olivia James, Nia Fluker and Deja Parrish helped form a season-best time of 3:31.89 — No. 3 in program history.

The 4×8 relay team of Brianna Blanton, Katie Fortner, Katie Moses and Tanisha Coppin established a school record time of 8:57.81. In other women’s relays, both the 4×1 and 4×2 took fourth place in their respective events. The 4×1 did so with a season-best 44.70.

The men’s 4×400 relay also produced a season-best time. The group of Cordell Lamb, Michael Cheeks, Jorel Bellafonte and Jeffrey Green finished fourth with a time of 3:06.30. The 4×8 also placed fourth for the men, with a time of 7:34.21.

Shai Carpenter and Whitney Fountain had season bests in the triple jump. Carpenter jumped 51-3 and took seventh, while Fountain jumped 40-4 and was 11th. In other field action, Torian Ware was sixth in the high jump (6-11) and James Plummer was 10th in the discus (169-4).

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 11 at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
