Tigers Conclude 2019 Season at Syracuse

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Volleyball team (11-17, 5-12 ACC) rounds out its 2019 campaign has it travels to Syracuse (11-13, 8-9 ACC) on Friday, Nov. 29. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. in the Women’s Building and is set to air on ACC Network.

Notes

  • Clemson is 1-4 all-time in Syracuse. It’s only road win against the Orange dates back to Nov. 7, 2014 (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22), which was also the last time the Tigers defeated Syracuse.
  • The Tigers and Syracuse needed five sets in the two teams’ most recent matchup on Sept. 29, 2019. The Orange won, 25-20, 18-25, 24-26, 25-17, 17-15, as reigning ACC Freshman of the Year Polina Shemanova (24 kills), Ella Saada (21 kills) and Marina Markova (17 kills) escaped Jervey Gym with a win.
  • Clemson’s blocking game has been strong its last four matches. The Tigers are averaging 2.44 blocks per set since registering a season-high 16.0 blocks, including eight solo, at No. 2 Pittsburgh on Nov. 10. Alyssa Deloney (1.06 blocks/set) has led the Tigers’ defensive effort up front in Clemson’s last four matchups.
  • Redshirt-junior outside hitter Kaylin Korte currently ranks fourth in the ACC, averaging 3.60 kills per set for the season. Among conference matches only, Korte ranks fifth in the conference with a 3.84 kills-per-set average.
  • Freshman setter Mckenna Slavik currently ranks sixth in the ACC in assists per set (9.71), which is also good for 14th in the nation among all freshman and fifth in country among Power-5 players.
  • The 2019 AVCA Top-50 and Top-100 teams were announced Nov. 20. To date, the Tigers have faced eight top-50 teams and 12 top-100 teams, including the Orange. Among those top-50 opponents include three top-10 AVCA coaches’ poll teams in then-No. 9 Wisconsin, then-No. 7 Minnesota and No. Pitt.
  • Korte and Slavik swept ACC weekly honors for the Tigers on Oct. 21. Both helped Clemson secure a pair of wins over Duke (Oct. 18) and Wake Forest (Oct. 20). Korte, Clemson’s first ACC Player of the Week recipient since 2013, posted a career-high 30 kills against the Blue Devils and averaged, 5.38 kills per set for the weekend. Slavik averaged 10.36 assists per set on the weekend. The Saint Charles, Illinois native poured in a career-best 50 assists and 11 digs against the Blue Devils to register her fifth double-double of the season.
  • Korte and Syracuse’s Polina Shemanova are the only two ACC players this season to tally at least 30 kills in a single match.
  • Korte raised her level of play against back-to-back top-10 opponents in then-No. 9 Wisconsin and No. 7 Minnesota. Against those pair of Big Ten foes, Korte averaged 4.33 kills per set and 3.83 digs per set.
  • This season, the Tigers returned three 2018 All-ACC selections in Brooke Bailey (Second Team), Solei Thomas (All-Freshman) and Gabby Easton (All-Freshman), which marked the first time since 2011 Clemson collected three ACC postseason selections.
  • In 2018, Clemson secured two postseason victories, a first in program history, with wins over Alabama A&M and Radford in the NIVC.
