CHRISTIANSBURG, Va.–The Clemson women’s swimming and diving team held steady in tenth place overall at the 2012 ACC Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center on Friday. The Tigers have currently amassed 90 points in the contest. Virginia continues to lead for the third consecutive day with 558 points.
Kristen Redmond picked up three points for the Tigers with her 14th-place finish in the 200 free. Her time of 1:49.10 was the best for the Clemson women’s program this season in the event.
The Tigers had a pair of swimmers finish in the top 25 in the 400 IM, with Tori Cervone (4:22.93) in 17th place and Kerry McLaughlin (4:32.17) in 23rd place. Sarah Bechard placed 21st overall in the 100 fly with her time of 55.26 seconds.
In addition, the 400 medley relay team of Kelly Fowler, Garrison Stevens, Bechard, and Meg Anderson scored 14 points for the Tigers with their swim of 3:47.96, which was good enough for tenth place overall.
The Tigers will return to the pool for the final day of competition at the ACC meet on Saturday. Preliminary heats will begin at 11 a.m., while finals will begin at 7 p.m. The contested events will include the 200 back, the 100 free, the 200 breast, the 200 fly, the 400 free relay, and the platform dive. In addition, the 1650 free is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
