CLEMSON, SC – The 11th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will open play in 2005 NCAA Regional competition on Friday, May 13 against #58 Furman at 2:30 PM. The Tigers (18-8) are the #12 overall seed in the national tournament and the #1 seed in the regional held in Clemson, SC. The Paladins bring a 22-3 overall record into the NCAA first-round match.
Friday’s match will be the 38th meeting between the two schools, with Clemson holding a 34-3 advantage in the series score. The Tigers are also 20-1 against the Paladins in matches played at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. Clemson won the teams’ last meeting during the 2004 season by a score of 7-0 in Greenville, SC. This year marks the first time the two schools will face each other in post-season action.
The Tigers are lead by senior Julie Coin, the #2-ranked player in the country. Coin boasts a 31-4 overall record for the fall and spring seasons combined, including a 22-2 mark in dual matches.
Tickets for the regional matches will be available at the gate and are $5 for adults and $3 for youth and college students with ID. They cannot be purchased prior to the matches. The parking lot adjacent to the Fike Recreation Center on Heisman Street will be reserved for the 2005 NCAA Women’s Tennis Regional Championships.
The second-round match, featuring the winners from Friday’s contests, will be played on Saturday, May 13 at 1:00 PM at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
