Tigers Begin Competition at NCAA Track & Field Championships

Buffalo, NY–Clemson’s Kenny Franklin and Shawn Crawford both advanced to the 200 meter semifinals and helped lead the 4×100 meter relay team to Friday’s finals at the NCAA Men’s Track and Field Meet at Buffalo, NY Wednesday evening.

In the men’s 200 meter dash, both Tigers, Kenny Franklin and Shawn Crawford won their respective heats to advance to the semifinals to be held on Friday evening at 8:10 p.m. Franklin turned in a time of 20.95, while Crawford, the NCAA indoor 200 meter champion, had a time of 20.75 which was the fastest time of the four heats.

The men’s 4×100 meter relay team consisting of Carlton Chambers, Shawn Crawford, Jeremichael Williams and Kenny Franklin qualified for Friday’s finals with a time of 39.62. This was the sixth fastest time to qualify. Texas Christian’s relay team was the fastest to qualify with a time of 38.77. The finals will be Friday at 6:10 p.m.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Greg Hines finished second in his heat and qualified for the finals on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. The Tigers’ Aaron Haynes ran a 51.72 and did not qualify. Hines had the fourth fastest qualifying time.

In the NCAA Women’s Meet, Clemson’s 4×100 meter relay team was disqualified because of a zone violation.

The Lady Tigers’ Nikki Bouyer and Simone Tomlinson did not qualify for the 200 meter semifinals. Tomlinson ran a time of 23.95, while Bouyer turned in a time of 23:59 time in her heat.
