CLEMSON, S.C. – Highlighted by two home meets in October and January, the 2016-17 diving schedule was released on Monday by Head Coach Leslie Hasselbach Adams. In addition to an opening exhibition at McHugh Natatorium on Oct. 14, the schedule includes 12 meets against opponents throughout the Southeast.
“I’m really excited to finally release our schedule for this upcoming year,” Hasselbach Adams said. “We have a lot of great competitions on our schedule, and we’re excited to travel up to Navy. That’s a new area where we’ve never traveled before, so we’re really looking forward to joining them for their invitational. We have a good array of ACC conference competition on our schedule as well.”
After the exhibition, fall competition officially begins on Oct. 21 with a meet at UNC Wilmington immediately followed by a clash at East Carolina on Oct. 22. The team returns home on Oct. 29 for the first of two home meets, this one against West Florida. The fall schedule concludes with four consecutive road meets, beginning with the Navy Invitational, featuring American, Lafayette, Bucknell and Navy, on Nov. 5 and 7. The Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech Invites span from Nov. 17-19, and the fall season wraps up with a meet against Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 14 as part of the team’s winter training trip in Coral Springs, Fla.
The spring season begins with two road meets, on Jan. 3-5 at the Tennessee Diving Invite in Knoxville, Tenn. and on Jan. 14 at Georgia Southern. The team hosts its Senior Day meet against Arkansas and Houston at McHugh Natatorium on Jan. 20-21. Two more road competitions, the Shamrock Invite at Notre Dame on Jan. 27-28 and the JMU Dukes Invite at James Madison on Feb. 4, mark the end of regular season competition for the squad.
“It’s a very well-balanced schedule,” Hasselbach Adams said. “We have a good number of competitions that will have us very prepared for our conference championship meet and other postseason competitions.”
Those postseason competitions begin on Feb. 15 with the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C. Divers who earn qualifying scores in earlier meets will dive in the NCAA Zone B Championships from Mar. 6-8 at Auburn. The NCAA Championships take place following Zones in Indianapolis, Ind., from Mar. 16-18.
