Tigers Add One Diver in Early Signing Period

Nov. 29, 2010

CLEMSON–Head Swimming and Diving Coach Christopher Ip and Diving Coach Leslie Hasselbach announced the signing of Chelsea Uranaka to a diving scholarship beginning with the 2011-12 academic year.

“I am thrilled that Chelsea decided to become a Tiger,” Hasselbach said. “She will be a great addition to our diving program. Chelsea is an experienced competitor and a hard-worker. She will make an immediate impact within our program. Chelsea’s parents now have two Tigers in the family. Her older sister is currently in her junior year here at Clemson. We will look forward to Chelsea’s arrival in the fall.”

The Windermere, FL native is a ten-year veteran as a diver who has trained with the prestigious Team Orlando Diving club. She is familiar with high-level competition due to her experiences with U.S. Diving. Uranaka is a four-time qualifier for the Junior National Championships and the Spring East National Championships. She has also qualified for the Summer East National Championship meet twice.

Uranaka’s accolades extended to the AAU ranks, where she was named the three-meter diving 16U National Champion in 2008. Two years later, in 2010, she was the national runner-up in three-meter diving.

Uranaka has been a decorated diver for several years in the Florida high school ranks. The Olympia High School standout is a four-time Class 3A state finalist, finishing as high as fourth place in 2010. Uranaka has also demonstrated that she is a well-rounded student, as she is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. She is also a member of her school’s marching band.
